Maija Poikela is an Assistant Professor (juniorprofessor) for Health Data Privacy (“Gesundheitsdatenschutz”) at Berlin Institute of Health at Charité Universitaetsmedizin Berlin. Her research is dedicated to analysing patients’ and healthcare professionals‘ views on privacy; developing innovative solutions that bolster trust and privacy in healthcare, and increasing the utilization of health data through development of new privacy-friendly concepts and technologies.
Prof. Poikela advocates for the integration of patient-centered technologies in digital health, employing diverse user research methodologies. Before her current role, she led a team focused on Usable Security and Privacy at the Fraunhofer Institute for Applied and Integrated Security (AISEC). She earned her PhD in Usable Privacy from the Technical University of Berlin in 2019.
Große Digitalisierungsprojekte in Deutschland werden häufig sehr negativ von der Zivilgesellschaft begleitet. Dies liegt zum Teil auch daran, dass der öffentlichen Hand nur wenig Kompetenz im Bereich Digitalisierung zugeschrieben wird, gerade bei den Themen Datenschutz und Datensicherheit. Im Tutorial sollen die Gründe hierfür und deren Folgen beleuchtet und vor allem entsprechende Handlungsempfehlungen abgeleitet werden.
