Gemalto Delivers New Generation e-Health Insurance Cards Solution to Slovenia

Gemalto’s Coesys Issuance solution to be delivered in Slovenia consists of middleware, digital signature capabilities, software applications, applets and cards. Cetis, Slovenia’s leader in security document printing will operate the personalization of the cards and the PKI infrastructure. ZZZS, the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia, in charge of the National Health Insurance Card System, will act as system integrator and will issue the cards to the citizens. The whole solution ensures backward compatibility with the existing infrastructure. Mr. Marjan Sušelj, Director of the HIC System Sector at ZZZS, comments: “Our eHealth 2010 strategic plan has the ambitious objective to inter-connect health information systems on the national level, ensuring eServices and transparent information to all relevant parties in a secure and efficient way. The Gemalto technology is one of the key enablers to put in place this eBusiness model for a common way of work in the Slovenian health sector by 2010”. In 2000, Slovenia was among the very first countries, with France, to introduce microprocessor-based health cards. The country is now renewing and upgrading the two million e-health cards currently in circulation in the country. The latest generation of Gemalto e-health solutions for Slovenia will significantly enhance online services for health professionals by enabling them to go through their administrative tasks faster and exchange medical data and messages with hospitals and other health professionals in an easy and secure manner. remi.calvet@gemalto.com www.gemalto.com
