With this new service incorporated in every new SFR SIM card, SFR subscribers can manage and save their contacts on demand, directly from their handsets or through SFR’s website. If the phonebook content or the handset is lost, SFR’s phonebook management solution guarantees personal data restoration. In addition, to improve the user’s experience, an exclusive function enables subscribers to manage an automatic and optimized backup after every ten new registered contacts. SFR also opted for a pay-per-use billing scheme with an affordable price, favouring a high penetration rate. As a result, since its launch in July 2005, this service reached a high uptake rate of almost 20%, which is a great performance in comparison with the usual uptake rate of other mobile value-added services. “Our market studies have shown that a phonebook back-up solution is essential for both wireless operators and their subscribers, who are looking for portability and safety of their mobile data,“ said Philippe Vallée, executive vice president of Telecommunications and R&D of Gemalto. “For many mobile users, the phonebook has become one of the most essential features. Therefore, the loss or theft of a mobile can be very distressing since contact details and numbers stored on the phone could disappear with it. For SFR subscribers, this is no longer an issue.” Emmanuelle.saby@gemalto.com www.gemalto.com
