China Capital Gears Up for Mobile Payment

With the SIMpass™ card, which is a dual-interface SIM card with flexible antenna attached, 22 million Beijing residents may take advantage of Beijing multiple application card system (BMAC) and have their daily commute even dining and shopping more convenient and enjoyable via their mobile phone. The Beijing Municipal Administration and Communications Card Company (BMAC) manages the Beijing automatic fare collection system (AFCS), the world largest transportation card system, which started its smart card based operation on 1 April 2006. Nowadays, BMAC extends its smart card services from automatic fare collection system to other applications. It has been widely used in more than 50,000 buses, over 60,000 taxis and 2,000 businesses including the Park and Ride car parks, supermarkets, bakeries, fast-food stores, pharmacies, cinemas, parks, public telephones and many others. Forty million contactless smart cards are in circulation and the daily transactions amount to over 10 million RMB.
