The challenge in Indonesia is how to cost-effectively reach a population of consumers with microbanking services when 90 percent are unbanked and dispersed among 17,500 islands. Gemalto says, its solution is decentralized instant card issuance – in-person, in-branch, and in a matter of minutes. The Dexxis solution offer includes EMV smart cards, servers, software, printers, and training to deploy the solution over a secure TCP/IP trusted network in the banking and retail environment. By using fingerprint biometric authentication from the software inside the chip, the smart cards provide a higher level of security to the cardholder and the issuer. The biometric also simplifies use of the card by eliminating the need to remember the PIN code, which can be a challenge for consumers new to electronic banking. The card can store various types of secure banking services such as an e-purse, prepaid data, deposit remittances, savings and loans, as well as financial and health insurance. Furthermore, the card serves as an electronic statement, logging up to 150 transactions, to help cardholders and financial institutions keep track of account activity with greater ease and eliminating the need for paper statements. www.gemalto.com
