New SIMalliance Specification Supports Standardisation in M2M Deployments

Standardised remote subscription management across eUICCs, regardless of their source, will result in time and development efficiencies for MNOs and the wider remote provisioning ecosystem. It enables service providers to provision their fleet, or installed base of devices, more rapidly and in a unified way across diverse terminals, MNO customer management systems and eUICCs. The end result will be simpler application provisioning and lifecycle management and more scalability and flexibility within the remote provisioning ecosystem.

SIMalliance’s specification is referenced in the GSMA Embedded SIM Specification, specifically within the recently published Remote Provisioning Architecture for Embedded UICC Technical Specification v3.0. Within that document, the GSMA defines a technical solution for the remote provisioning and management of the eUICC in M2M devices.

Commenting on the release of the new specification, Hervé Pierre, Chairman of SIMalliance says: “By delivering the eUICC Profile Package Specification, to support the GSMA Embedded SIM Specification, SIMalliance has played a significant part in unlocking a new deployment phase for the global remote provisioning market.  For the first time, it is now possible to remotely load and manage subscriptions across devices already deployed in the field, in a fully interoperable way. As technical experts with indepth knowledge of eUICCs, SIMalliance has welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the GSMA on this initiative.”

SIMalliance members represent approximately 90% of the global SIM card market. Members include Eastcompeace, Fundamenture, Gemalto, Giesecke & Devrient, Incard, Kona I, Morpho, Oasis Smart SIM, Oberthur Technologies, VALID, Watchdata, Wuhan Tianyu and XH Smartcard (Zhuhai) Co. Ltd.
