Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled mobile devices are currently undergoing a fast adoption and are becoming omnipresent. Combining contactless ticketing systems (where the main applications are automated fare collection in public transport and secure access management) and NFC creates a much-improved transport experience such as being able to travel using the phone as a ticket, buying tickets directly Over The Air without having to go to a vending machine, consulting the balance of your electronic wallet, etc. This will take the end-user experience to the next level opening new business models for all ecosystem players.
The Common Criteria ensures that evaluations of Information Technology (IT) products and protection profiles are performed to high and consistent standards and are seen to contribute significantly to confidence in the security of those products and profiles. The Common Criteria at EAL4+ level has been made mandatory prior to the deployment of MIFARE DESFire™ mobile applications, and ensures the system cannot be broken.
“At Oberthur Technologies, we are very proud to have received this Common Criteria EAL4+ certification for our MIFARE DESFire™ transport application on our NFC card. It is a token of recognition of our expertise and our involvement to always provide to our customers the best-in-class solutions and technologies. Because EAL4+ certification is mandatory for market deployment of MIFARE DESFire™ mobile applications, Oberthur Technologies is proud to be the first and only vendor able to ensure such a deployment” said Christian Lefebvre, Managing Director Telecom Product Line at Oberthur Technologies.
